Healing the 7 Chakras - Yoga and Plant Medicine
Feb

Healing the 7 Chakras - Yoga and Plant Medicine

The chakras are centers of energy all over the body. We have seven major chakras located along the spine. Every feeling and all our senses are integrated with a different chakra. Blocked chakras can manifest in physical, emotional, or spiritual issues. Keeping the chakras open and balanced keeps our energies flowing correctly and can help keep us healthy.

Yoga works to move energy in the body. Yoga postures and controlled breath can aid in the cleansing, balancing and opening of the chakras. Similarly, plants have medicines that support healing. There are plants with healing properties that reduce pain, minimize stress, balance the gut, harmonize the mood, cleanse the body, and more.

We will start with an introduction to all the chakras in the first class in January and then work our way up the chakra system each week, ending again in September with an all chakra focused class. Focusing on different yoga poses and plants each week that pair with each chakra system. Come try, taste and experience yoga and plants with us!

Pilates and Self Care Tools!

Join Jen Ward, owner of Being Elemental and learn more about Pilates and Chinese Medicine Cupping/Gua Sha/Acupressure in this interactive workshop where you will walk away with an at home care routine!

Pilates strengthens the core muscles, helps our flexibility, eases joints, decreases pain, improves focus and reduces stress. Joseph Pilates often said by practicing his method the organs would experience an internal shower and when practiced correctly the exercises can have a profound effect on all the systems in the body.

Cupping is trendy now, but it’s not new. This ancient modality can be used for modern ailments. Cupping and Gua Sha fiispel “stagnation” below the skin, such as stagnant blood and lymph, and improves the flow of energy throughout the body. A vacuum, or suction is created inside of a cup pressed on the skin. It is different from massage in that, rather than the muscles being pressed down, they are pulled up. By pulling the muscle and the fascia we can “break up” the tense muscle. The improved circulation from these modalities helps increase recovery time for strained muscles and help them heal if they have been overused.

We will review how to also use tools from Chinese Medicine and Ayurveda for Acupuncture and Marma points. Fortunately, you can utilize all these tools at home in addition to your care with practitioners!

Asana Flow & Hand Mudra

During the season of winter, as we go inwards we find a wealth of gifts… by embracing yourself in a nurturing “Gentle Flow and Yoga Mudras” class you then allow many of those gifts to unfold!

A Mudra (Sanskrit word meaning sign or seal) is a bodily posture or symbolic gesture, usually of the hands, that locks and guides energy flow and reflexes to the brain.

By curling, crossing, stretching and touching the fingers and hands, we can “talk” to the body and mind as each area of the hand corresponds to a certain part of our being…. Many times referred to as “yoga of the hands,” there are hundreds of different mudras used for specific healing purposes and meditation. You will learn a few to start your own self-healing and to explore the health enhancing benefits of this art.

We will be flowing through asanas/postures of body and hands

Class will be guided by Lydie Ometto, yoga teacher (e-ryt500) and author of “The Top 10 Yoga Mudras & Siddhartha”

Everyone is welcome – this is an all levels class

Remembering Your Spirit, A Workshop for Women

Remembering Your Spirit, a workshop for women

January 12, 2019 11:30 am to 2:30 pm

$25 per person

Choose today to give yourself the best life ever! If not now, when?  Make 2019 a year of NEW INTENTIONS that will serve your highest self spiritually, and connect your mind, body and spirit. Begin designing a new path that brings compassion to yourself by “Remembering Your Spirit”!

Our lives are very busy, and because we give to others more than we ever give to ourselves, we often find we are disconnected from mind, body, and spirit.

Take the opportunity to invest in yourself on a higher energetic level, to connect not only to your own spirit, but that of other women that share similar stories. Move from lack to abundance, from limiting beliefs to unlimited opportunities and open yourself up to the belief that you are deserving.

Gina Lee will take you on a heartfelt adventure walking you through a "Journey Line', showing you where you have been and help you gain clarity of where you want to go. You will see yourself from a new perspective, which will guide you into abundance and give you freedom from limiting beliefs that may be holding you back.

In this workshop you will:

1.  View yourself in a new light, from a healing perspective

2.  Support and encourage others in the community, at work, etc.

3.  Gain clarity and love yourself through gratitude

4.  Set a purposeful intention for 2019

Our time together will begin with a meditation, move into 45-minute yoga class then transition into the beautiful unveiling of "Remembering Your Spirit!".

This is the perfect gift you can give to yourself by connecting mind, body and spirit, and start the momentum moving in the direction YOU want to go with like-minded women by cultivating self-awareness for a healthy new year in 2019!

Milwaukie Beer Fest & Yoga

Yoga and Beer
It’s really only been a matter of time before they paired up.

Elk Rock Yoga is excited to be participating in  celebrating great craft beer, cider, music, local vendors, food and art this Saturday August 11th, 12pm-8pm.

Pairing yoga and beer brings together a lot of different people and gives you a great opportunity to socialize. You can expect a wider mix of people than your traditional yoga class – you might see more men, more body types, and more experience levels. And among those, you’ll find loyal practitioners of yoga who are looking to lighten up their practice and add in a little fun.

Is this even healthy?
Let’s push aside the fact that socializing and building relationships contributes to living a longer, more fulfilling life – something you’ll be doing by engaging in yoga and beer events. Beer in and of itself can lower the risk heart attacks in women, strengthen bones, and protect against diabetes. Physically, yoga will increase your flexibility, strength, and energy. Both activities offer reduced stress, improvement in mood and increased relaxation.

After a yoga session at the studio, walk next door to get a Taste of Milwaukie Beer Fest! Bring your friends and meet some new friends who have some way cool interests!

$10 Yoga Class/ $15 gets you a Taste of Milwaukie commemorative glass and 4 beer tickets with 30+ craft beers/cider to choose from

Blending therapeutic bodywork and healing practices that harmonize breath, movement, and intention to provide decreased stress, tension, and pain. This workshop emphasizes “Metta: the practice of loving kindness” to ensure that every technique feels good to give and receive.

Supine, Prone, and Side-Lying techniques will be covered demonstrating simple, easy, and fun approaches to safely move and stretch the body for a solid 60-90min session on the table. Join us for a fun healing journey! (4 CEU's)

Benefits of Table Thai Massage:

* Appropriate for practitioners who are unable to work on the floor. Body mechanics are easier to incorporate on the table and blend easily with established massage practice.

* Improves postural alignment and balance to the nervous system while encouraging the release of synovial fluid, which lubricates the joints and enhances joint mobility.

*Assists lymph flow, which boosts the immune system and aids the circulatory system by distributing blood, oxygen and nutrients throughout the body.

* Alleviates common painful conditions, such as back pain, sciatica, shoulder pain and headaches.

Lesley Sario is the Founder/Owner at Elk Rock Wellness & Yoga, an E-Ryt 200 Yoga Alliance certified instructor, Holistic Educator, and Licensed Massage Therapist since 2005. Her practice and instruction is shaped through extensive training, professional experience, & healing intention.
