insurance billing

Navigating health insurance these days can feel overwhelming — for patients and providers alike. We understand your frustration, please remember: We are your allies. We want your care to be smooth, supportive, and full of healing.

PATIENT RESPONSIBILITY

Please remember your insurance plan is a contract between you and your insurance company, not between you and our clinic. We bill insurance as a courtesy to our patients. Any information we receive from insurance companies is not a guarantee of payment. Payment is dependent on eligibility of services at time of service and all terms and conditions of your plan. You are responsible for any charges not covered by insurance.

How to Confirm Benefits

For specific questions regarding your unique health plan and benefits, please call your insurance company directly.

  • Is Acupuncture covered?

  • Is Massage Therapy covered by a Licensed Massage Therapist? (CPT 97124 or CPT 97140)

This question is important to ask as some insurance plans have specific massage benefits where "massage is only covered if performed by a physical therapist or chiropractor and not covered by licensed massage therapists.”

  • What is my copay or coinsurance? What is the difference between copay vs coinsurance?

  • Does my deductible need to be met before my benefits are available?

  • Has my deductible been met for the year? What date does my deductible reset?

  • Is a preauthorization or a referral required?

  • Ask for a call reference number for future reference.

Medical Massage and acupuncture

Medical Services billed through insurance is based on a fee schedule set by your insurance company. Insurance reimburses healthcare providers a specific amount for services performed, as outlined in a pre-determined list of fees. Medical Services include time covering the treatment on credit, billing hours, tracking, collecting payment, detailed documentation and chart notes.

Federal Savings and Health Savings Accounts

If you are enrolled in a high-deductible health plan, you may use your health savings account to pay for treatment. By using your HSA debit card, you may pay for treatment with pre-tax dollars while working toward your deductible.
