PATIENT RESPONSIBILITY

It is the patient’s responsibility to monitor your insurance benefits for massage - the contract is between you and your insurance provider so please make sure you understand your policy. For specific questions regarding your health plan and benefits, call the #1-800 on the back of your insurance card and speak directly to your insurance representative.

How to Confirm Massage Benefits

Call the #1.800 on the back of your insurance card to speak to your representative directly. Specific Questions to ask:

  • Is massage therapy covered by a licensed massage therapist? (CPT 97124)

This question is important to ask as some insurance plans have specific massage benefits where "massage is only covered if performed by a physical therapist or chiropractor and not covered by licensed massage therapists.”

  • What is my copay or coinsurance? What is the difference between copay vs coinsurance?

  • Does my deductible need to be met before my massage benefits are available?

  • Has my deductible been met for the year? What date does my deductible reset?

  • Is a preauthorization or a referral required?

Medical Massage.

Medical Massage is a term that refers to special techniques used when massage is part of the overall treatment of medical problems stemming from trauma to the body such as a car accident. This form of massage is often, but not always, done under the instruction of a physician, in the case of work-related injuries or auto injuries, and focuses on addressing the affected area(s). Your therapist will conduct a thorough health intake during each massage session and develop a treatment plan to provide you with the most appropriate treatment for your injury. Therapists will document progress and work closely with other health care providers to ensure you receive the best care possible.

SCOPE OF PRACTICE

As Licensed Massage Therapists we are only allowed to bill under our scope of practice. These codes include CPT 97124 (Therapeutic Massage) and CPT 97140 (Manual Therapy)
