Life is stressful, whether you are feeling the weight of parenting, the pressure of work deadlines or the overwhelming need to succeed in whatever life throws at you, my massage sessions can help!
After taking some time at the beginning of the session to get to know you better, I will create the perfect environment that will allow you to let go of your mental stress while I intuitively work on helping to release the physical tension found in your muscles. In just ones session, you will feel a sense of relief and renewed wellbeing.
Self care is an important investment in your health and should be implemented on a regular basis to help balance your busy lifestyle. Schedule a massage with me on Saturdays, I am confident you will leave your session feeling recharged and focused with less stress!

Something I get asked a lot is, “Why did you decide to become a massage therapist?” and truthfully, there wasn’t one specific “aha!” moment, but rather a series of unfoldings that helped guide me into this field. And while certain forces tried to sway me towards a more “traditional” path, I’ve stood strong in my conviction in knowing I always wanted to help people - help them feel alive and positive, and throughout my experience, bodywork and massage have always genuinely felt natural to me; it’s what fuels my fire. I am so grateful and fortunate that I work in a field I am truly passionate about, and I look forward to sharing my love for dynamic bodywork with you
I would describe my style as therapeutic; I enjoy utilizing many tools and techniques I have had the joy of learning, such as: deep tissue and swedish techniques, massage and acupressure cupping, gua sha, fascial release, MET/AET, trigger point techniques, hot stones and utilizing my years of practice and knowledge to provide relief on the table, but also address ways you can find relief in your everyday life, for lasting relief.
If I’m not working, or digging my nose into my bodywork textbooks, you can find me with my cats in our garden, hiking throughout the beautiful PNW landscape, or dancing and inviting my inner child to let loose, wherever there’s music to be found.

I feel very fortunate to support my clients in welcoming the gifts of freedom, health, and vitality into their lives through the practice of massage. Whether you’re an active athlete seeking to support your body’s best performance, or you’re recovering from injury, pain, or a stressful lifestyle, massage has the capacity to support you in nurturing your body’s innate potential for healing and growth.
I have been enjoying the practice of massage since 2010 when, on a whim, I decided to take a course in Swedish massage at the San Francisco School of Massage. I immediately resonated with this art form, which intersects my curiosities around matters of health and wellness, several movement traditions (most notably, yoga and gymnastics), science, and spirituality. I have continued to explore many styles and traditions of bodywork, including biodynamic massage, biodynamic cranial therapy, craniosacral therapy, deep tissue, myofascial release, trigger point therapy, and zen shiatsu. I am also a Reiki master in the tradition of Mikao Usui. In 2015-2016 I spent several months in Southeast Asia, studying Thai-Yoga massage and other traditional healing modalities. My practice is grounded in a regular engagement with a Buddhist meditation technique called Vipassana, which means “to see things as they are.”
Outside of my practice, I’m constantly seeking and exploring new adventures with movement. I enjoy the beautiful playground the PNW offers for hiking, water activities, yoga, biking, and running. You can often find me working to improve my handstand, where I enjoy playing with my body and life from an inverted perspective.

My unique style of massage, a hybrid of deep, therapeutic pressure coupled with long, fluid, finishing strokes offers the body relief, healing and rejuvenation. Hello, my name is Joan!
I possess a wide body of knowledge with 18 years of experience. Upon graduating from Ashmead College of Massage in 2002, I went on to study with Jeremy Sutton – a Rolfer – who taught Sports And Clinical Therapies at Ashmead College in Vancouver, WA. I have completed numerous continuing education classes, including Craniosacral Therapy, Advanced Myofascial Release, Somatoemotional Release, Reiki, Traditional Thailand Massage, Ashiatsu, Gua Sha, Fire Cupping and now attend OCOM as a dual degree student in Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture. I have worked on professional athletes, world travelers, automobile accident victims, migraine sufferers, and chronic pain sufferers, in fitness centers, medical offices, clinics, spas, festivals, and homes.
After working around doctors at Stanford University Hospital in my early 20s I knew I wanted to do something in the healing field and found myself following my curiosity wherever it led me. Many of my clients report energetic changes as well as physical changes during and after I have worked with them. Some find recovery or management after long term suffering with chronic issues, like migraines, frozen shoulder, joint pain and more. I don’t purport myself to be a miracle worker, but rather a balance of intuitiveness combined with knowledge in my field.
I am also trained in the art of hypnosis and the various applications; clinical, weight loss, habit cessation and healthy habit formation, phobias, street hypnosis, and even a few stage performances.
I look forward to working with you!

My passion for Massage Therapy is rooted in my early experience as a dancer. Through dance, I discovered the importance of having a healthy, unhindered body and developed an understanding of muscle action, stretching and strengthening skills, and alignment awareness.
I believe that through the release of structural holding patterns we can be freer in movement, strength and even happiness. My intention as an LMT is to create a safe space for all my clients where healing and relaxation can take place and to support them in their own unique healing process.
I completed my massage training at East/West College of the Healing Arts in 2003 after receiving my Bachelor of Arts Degree in Modern Dance from Bennington College in 1999. My massage style is therapeutic in nature and I use a variety of techniques and modalities in my practice including; Deep Tissue, Trigger Point, Swedish, Myofascial Release and Hot Stone. I’m also trained in Traditional Thai Massage, Ashiatsu, and Orthobionomy.
I’m available for appointments at Elk Rock Wellness on Fridays and Sundays. Click here to book now!
I look forward to working with you!
